A blast from the past…and the present
On a routine trip to my local shops I walked past My Bookshop (which is still closed due to Covid lockdown here in Melbourne) and imagine my delight at seeing my new book in the window, my first sighting of it ‘in the wild’. And adding to the delight was its shelf-mate - Robert Dessaix’s ‘The Time of Our Lives - growing older well.’ Robert was the host of the ABC Radio National program Books and Writing for many distinguished years before I took it on in 1995 when he left the ABC to pursue his own writing. I did the same thing in 2011 after six years presenting The Book Show, the daily program that replaced the weekly Books and Writing which I fronted for another twelve years after Robert left. Thanks Corrie Perkin, the owner of My Bookshop for having a long memory and a witty cast of mind!
